“On this rock (πέτρᾳ) I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” – Matthew 16:18
Yet today many still fall through those gates into the lake of fire. The Church must close them, and we take that responsibility seriously.
We Close the Gates
At Gospel Baptist Church we believe the Church is called to stand in the gap and shut the gates of hell.
How can the gates be closed? When you share the good news of Christ’s salvation with someone who becomes a believer, the gates of hell are closed for that person.
We Use the Keys
“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven…” – Matthew 16:19
Christ gave Peter (Πέτρε̱ς) the keys—plural—to the Kingdom of Heaven, representing the good news of His salvation. With those keys we open Heaven’s doors for people on earth so they may enter the kingdom. Jesus did not give just one key; everyone (Πέτρε̱ς) receives a key to open Heaven’s gates. We are honored to be called to use them.
When you share the gospel and someone believes, you open Heaven’s gates for them.
What We Believe
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” – Matthew 6:19‑21
Gospel Baptist Church understands “treasures” as human souls. The church is built with living stones according to the will of its owner, Jesus Christ. He gives us the keys (κλείδιά, kleidia) to the kingdom of heaven; everyone is called to use them to bring lost souls into Heaven.
